We are budding television producers pleased to be given the opportunity to share our vision with you here on Crowdfunder.  Being a husband and wife team has proved to be one of our biggest strengths in sharing our vision, keeping one another focused and always believing one day our vision would become a reality.  One of our weaknessness has been that we started  our project as a hobby three years ago on a shoestring budget just after being married and all that we have built and achieved has come from all the money we have managed  to have between the two of us to get to this point. It has taken hard work and self-determination and along the way becoming a very productive journey of actively engaging in all aspects of community involvement and business development from completing Business Link Start Up Work Shops to currently being enrolled in the Open University Business Degree Programmes and courses.
We are confident now to pitch to the real investors, and that is you.  Needing £15,000 to purchase professional broadcast  equipment so we can offer a television service that will provide in summary,
“ 1). A means to help address the dire need  of the community  to  assist with the chronic unemployed,  homelessness, drug abuse, anti social behaviour and recidivism. 2). Secondly, to highlight  and promote the interests of citizens of Black descent : namely persons of Afro American, Caribbean and African origin. We believe that the hopes and aspiration are not adequately met in media and so leads to a sense of isolation from main stream society, hence the lack of Black role models in the society.”
We have listed all our research, details and Fact Sheet below for your perusal.  With  minimum amounts you can become part of this very needed project . If 400 investors like yourselves invest £ 37.50 each , our target would be met . You would be spending less than if you were a couple like us going out to watch a blockbuster film of interest and dinner and probably would save money overall in having more programmes of interest at home and not have to go out to see one?  Also, if 300 investors like yourselves were to invest  £50.00 we would met our goal of £15,000 and sooner.
All we ask is that you believe in the project, look at all the research , look at the rewards  invest what you can and become a part of a vision becoming a reality.

FACT SHEET

Diablotin Television was founded on February 24th, 2010 by Albert and Tempie Ltd with two share holders, Albert and Tempie Williams
Company registration number is 7168263.

Our vision as new entrants in the television industry is to develop a fresh approach to television production, The idea was born out of our passion for the creative arts. The founders, are both published authors in their own rights, budding musicians and video enthusiasts who through the last three years have developed wide experience in information technology. The husband and wife team have assembled a very extensive web presence on the world wide web where their music, literary, photographic and video production are shared with the general public.

The idea to go commercial with, what was until now a hobby is born out of a desire to add value to our work, through the establishment of a viable enterprise, while aiming to assist in the employment of citizens of the community of Crawley.

Our quest is to tap into that latent semi-skilled labour force by offering, those who want to train in a new area of employment, a chance to retool, The most successful ones find employment in the company.

To date, our registered office is at 27 Dalewood Gardens, Crawley, Rh10 8XP where we produce our proto types, and plan our strategy and other administrative works. We intend to grow steadily learning as we go more about the industry of which in this area is a growing one and of which there is much room for another player.

COMPANY ETHOS

What distinguishes our model is the first target group of our company is that it is geared towards building its personnel from hosting training modules in partnership with stakeholders in the Borough, and alliances with partners in the industry, particularly the BBC and other investors. Our research has shown that the Town of Crawley is in dire need of a service like ours as one of the ways to deal with chronic unemployment, homelessness, drug abuse, anti social behaviour and recidivism.

With today’s opportunity, we are determined to inspire confidence and hope to these groups.

Our second target audience is to highlight and promote the interests of citizens of Black descent: namely persons of Afro American, Caribbean and African origin. We believe that the hopes and aspiration are not adequately met in media and so leads to a sense of isolation from main stream society, hence the lack of Black role models in the society.

Diablotin Television is a new independent privately-owned television production company, owned by Albert and Tempie Ltd.  based in Crawley, United Kingdom.

Co founder, Albert Williams says, “ in phase two, our ultimate goal is to establish a new television Cable network championing the hopes and aspirations of a wide spectrum of viewers.
We also aim to train persons in various skills used in the television, film and video industry. “Among the aims of the company are hosting training modules in television production, information technology, computing working in partnership with stakeholders in the Commonwealth of Dominica, the Caribbean and elsewhere in the world. “Through establishing strategic alliances with partners in the industry,“ says Director of Marketing and Sales, Tempie Williams, “We believe that a service like ours is one of the ways of dealing with chronic unemployment, homelessness, drug abuse, anti social behaviour and recidivism through providing training opportunities in various digital skills which are in high demand in most developing countries,” she said adding, “Diablotin Television Ltd’s focus is to highlight and promote the interests of persons of Black descent: namely Afro-American, Caribbean and Black British.
We believe that currently the hopes and aspirations of these racial groups are not adequately represented in the media today and which leads to a sense of isolation from main stream society, and hence the lack of Black role models,” she concluded.
WHY DIABLOTIN
The company which trades under several Diablotin-named products is named after the tallest mountain in the Commonwealth Dominica: Morne Diablotin, which was named so by early French settlers because it was the breeding place of the now almost extinct bird species of The Black-capped, a small seabird in the gadfly petrel genus, also known as the Diablotín. The nocturnal bird was named by locals as Diablotín, which by literal translation means “little devil”, “because of its night-time habits and the odd-sounding mating calls, which may have suggested to locals the presence of evil spirits in the dark.” Albert Williams explains further, “Therefore, our products mimic that legendary bird, and its habitat, the mountain, in many ways.
Our aim is to become the ‘devil’s advocate’: a voice for the marginalised, downtrodden and unrepresented people of the Diaspora, and a mountain of excellence in cyber space; to become a leader in internet technology. He says, adding “WE believe that Information technology (I.T) is the way forward. For countries like Dominica and other Caribbean Island states that have relied on an agriculture-based economy– limes, and coconuts and in recent time’s bananas. WE need to breed at this time, empowered individuals, full of innovative and creative ideas; computer technicians, software developers etc that can create the kind of income generating companies such as the founders of Google, Yahoo, Myspace and Facebook have done.”
 OUR FORUM http://diablotin-television.proboards.com/
Diablotin Television also runs a messageboard/forum http://diablotin-television.proboards.com/ Our aim is to provide an educational space where subjects such as creative writing, music, computer studies and religion etc can be discussed with the view of becoming a hub of learning, especially those who wish to improve thier computer skills. The forum is free to join and easy to use and all are welcome.

TOWARDS SAFER DRIVING IN DOMINICA

Don’t you think it is time for the government to decide to bring Dominica‘s driving laws up to international standards? I mean, the politicians travel overseas and know that driving standards, in the UK for instance ,are well documented and every one adheres to the rules. Where do I begin? For a start, to pass the theory test, it is mandatory that one learns the HIGHWAY CODE inside out. In there you will learn all road markings, and traffic signs as well as other general road usage, such as speed limits, for different types of roads and whether the road is a motor way, single carriage road or passes through an urban dwelling area. The theory test also has a hazard perception component that is a computer based test in which you are simulate driving on various roads and click every time you are aware that a potential hazard appears.

The practical test is no shorter that 40 minutes driving and begins with reading a registration plate from 20 metres away, followed by two or three questions on the general knowledge of a vehicle and the testing of various manoeuvres such as: parking in a parking bay, a turn in the road, or reversing round a corner and the obligatory EMERGENCY STOP.

All learning to drive must be supervised by an ACCREDITED DRIVING INSTRUCTOR who himself has been rigorously trained and tested to the approved standard. It is his duty to ensure that you understand ALL driving matters before he recommends that you sit the test.

Now, I have been reading almost every other week of a terrible accident in Dominica on this online newspaper, and I believe that something must be done to save lives, and it MUST BE DONE NOW.

On the question of speed limits, here in the UK, the speed limit on the motorway is 70 miles-an- hour, in towns and villages it is 30 miles-an-hour. And where advised 20 miles-an -our…that is standard. The use of road signs is also extremely useful. Motorist should be advised of an upcoming bend or double bend well in advance of approaching the hazard. The road will also have marking telling the driver to slow down and stay in his lane.

A certified driver in the UK, is trained to constantly read all road signs above, on the side, and on the road. And will also consider the condition of the road it self, whether it is wet or has potholes or gravel on it that could affect his stopping time.

I have read of accidents in Dominica, where a driver pulling out from a side road is hit by an oncoming vehicle. This could be avoided if both drivers are driving with CARE AND ATTENTION. If the road on which you are joining is a busy one, there will usually be two or more indications that the main road is a busy and one and potential hazard. You will usually see a stop sign, and double white lines crossing the road. Especially if the corner is what you call BLIND CORNER where you cannot see what is travelling in your direction as you approach the corner. Before you pull out, make sure that the road is clear,or make sure that your joining the road will not slow down another driver. And when I say make sure, look, and look again before you pull out. A vehicle travelling at 30 miles-an-hour at a hundred feet away might seem far off, but it will only take him/her a few seconds to be upon you.

Before I conclude, I just want to touch on the wearing of SEAT BELTS AND CRASH HELMETS for motor cyclists. It might not seem obvious to you,but trust me they can be life savers. Use them!!! Make sure that your car is in a road worthy condition, before your drive. All cars over three years old, in the United Kingdom have to undergo a mandatory Ministry of Transportation (MOT) service examination to check basic parts and tyres, window wipers, fan belts, brakes, foot and hand breaks, indicator, break and head lamps and exhaust emissions etc.,and if anything is found to be amiss, you will not be able to renew your road tax. AND YOU MUST HAVE THIRD PARTY VEHICLE INSURANCE.

I know that Dominica has unique challenges when it comes to driving on our crowded and steep, narrow winding roads, but if we begin to re-educate our drivers and teach the young ones motoring skills in aright and proper way, we can begin to see some improvement and enjoy safer road journeys.

And finally, PLEASE DON’T USE ANY MIND-ALTERING SUBSTANCES or drive when tired. The mind works much better when it is rested and it is in its natural state.

Facebook has cooked up a winner with this Timeline feature. It appears to be a micro-search engine that chronologically indexes  your activities on Facebook. But such a marvellous innovation comes at a price. As anyone has access to your page and contents, if you don’t customise your settings, preferably for your eyes only. Like for instance, revealing the day you joined Facebook, and any comments you may have made in the  new feature that encourages you to add more sensitive data about yourself as an update. Nevertheless, as social networking sites and web pages in general go, Facebook’s timeline will ensure that its 800 million subscribers with stay with Facebook for a very long time still.

RASTAFARIANS IN DOMINICA HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE ON ANNIVERSARY OF THE DREAD ACT

Press Release
37rd Anniversary of the Unlawful Societies and Associations Act Popularly called the Dread Act.

November 21st, 2011 is the 37th anniversary of the Unlawful Societies and Associations Act Popularly called the Dread Act.

At 12:30 PM, on Monday 21st November 2011, the Rastafarian community in Dominica will host a press conference at the House of Kaiso, head quarters of the Dominica Calypso Association on Valley Road in Bath Estate Dominica.
The law is one of the most draconian 20th to 21st pieces of legislation passed in any part of the world. The law which gave citizens the right to shoot other citizens on site without question, was passed by the Dominica Labour Party under the leadership of former Prime Minister, Patrick Roland John and was supported and unopposed by the official opposition the Dominica Freedom Party under the leadership of Mary Eugenia Charles.

The law aimed to stem the spread of and influence or the Rastafarian movement in Dominica by sentencing members to nine months in prison for the hairstyle dread locks or dreads or any memorabilia that identified them as Dreads as they were call at the time. This law resulted in the imprisonment of many youth, disrupting their education, family life and careers. Along with the negative social and economic impact on those affected by the law, enforcement of the law proved to be brutal, resulting in death and injury to many dreadlocks, wearing individuals who fled to the hills for refuge. The law was briefly repelled and again reinforced in 1976 but has since then been replaced by the terrorist act.

In order to generate discussion on the dread act and promote reconciliation and healing, the Rastafarian community in Dominica asks the questions:

What led our society to pass, enforce and tolerate such blatant violation of human rights in the 20th century?

What was the impact on those who enforced the law, victims of the law, their families and the wider society?

How do we create opportunity for healing and recovery for victims who directly experienced the trauma of such harsh legislation?

How do we create a space for healing those who passed and directly enforced such legislation?

How do we as a society get engaged in undoing the damage of such inhumane legislation and its enforcement?

How do we prevent the future repeat of human rights violation in our island nation?

The Rastafarian community appeals to and invites individuals, institutions and organizations in Dominica including churches, unions, political parties, non government organizations, the bar association, scholars and to facilitate and be engaged in an ongoing process of exploring the issues related to the law.

To address the issues raised, answer the questions, document the series of events, individual and group experiences, the Pink & Blue Arts for Violence Prevention project will to produce a documentary film to be released on the 38th anniversary of the Unlawful Societies and Associations Act (the Dread Act) in 2012.
